SKATE (Safe Kids Are Taught Early) - An abduction prevention education program

Talking to children about the possibility of an abduction is something most parents never do, even though an abduction of their child it is one of many parent's greatest fears. In an effort to help educate children and their parents, the Laura Recovery Center developed the Safe Kids Are Taught Early (SKATE) program.

SKATE is a 40-45 minute safety program on lures and abduction prevention. It is an interactive program that concentrates on the lures a predator might use and steps a child can take to identify and avoid an abduction. The program is non-threatening, fast paced, entertaining and educational. It is designed for children K through 5th grade.

This presentation is effective for groups as small as 100 or as large as 300. Presentations can be booked back-to-back to accommodate upwards of 900-1,000 children per day. As of 2010, the Laura Recovery Center has presented the SKATE program to over 200,000 children.
