2010 Laura Smither Scholarship Awarded to Elizabeth Conger
The Laura Recovery Center - for missing children - proudly announces that Friendswood High School graduate Ms. Elizabeth "Lizzy" Conger is this year's recipient of the Laura Smither Scholarship. This annual $3,000 scholarship honors the memory of Laura Kate Smither, who was abducted and murdered in April 1997. Bob and Gay Smither are so proud of all the scholarship winners and the many accomplishments they have made in their lives. They have no doubt that Lizzy will well represent the scholarship and the memory of their daughter.
Ms. Conger has been accepted at North Western University, as a prestigious Murphy Scholar, where she plans to pursue a 5 year dual degree in vocal performance and mechanical engineering. She has always loved music, math and science, and plans to pursue these interests in her university studies. We look forward to her reaching her dreams of becoming the first opera singing astronaut! Her high school career reflects high grades while undertaking an array of challenging extra curricular activities. She has enjoyed wonderful years in the Friendswood High School musical, most recently giving audiences a memorable performance as Ado Annie in "Oklahoma." For this performance she received one of eight coveted Tommy Tune Award scholarships. Lizzy is also very proud of her years in the math and science club where she served as President this year, and she was a Texas High School Aerospace Scholar which fueled her fascination with the space program.
This young woman will leave her mark on the world (and beyond!) and we will all enjoy seeing her do so!
The Laura Recovery Center and the Laura Smither Scholarship Committee wishes Lizzy every success in her college years and beyond.
